Extra fat under the chin: options to consider

A soft fullness under the chin may be a pocket of fat that changes with body composition, but the visible contour is also shaped by jaw structure, skin elasticity, posture, and genetics. Loose skin can resemble excess fat, and a firm or one-sided lump is not automatically a cosmetic fat deposit. A new, painful, enlarging, or persistent lump needs medical assessment rather than an aesthetic procedure. Arrange a medical review for a hard, fixed, rapidly growing, painful, or one-sided swelling, or if fullness is associated with trouble swallowing, breathing, fever, or unexplained weight change.
