What should you know about scarlet fever?

The rash may begin on the chest or tummy and spread, with skin that feels like fine sandpaper. The face can look flushed while the area around the mouth stays paler. Scarlet fever is associated with [Strep Throat](/conditions/strep-throat/), but a rash and throat symptoms can have other causes. A clinician may examine the throat and decide whether testing is needed.
