Short answer

Exercise induced vertigo is a spinning or movement sensation during or after activity that should be assessed if it recurs, is severe, or affects balance.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What it can mean

Exercise may expose a balance problem when the head moves quickly, you turn, look up, or change position. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo can cause brief spinning with head movement. Meniere's Disease may involve vertigo with hearing changes or ear pressure, while Migraine can cause dizziness with or without a headache. A Middle Ear Infection may also disturb balance.

Describe whether the room spins or you feel light-headed, how long it lasts, which movements trigger it, and whether there is hearing loss, ringing, headache, nausea, weakness, or visual change. These details help distinguish Vertigo from other causes of dizziness.

What to do

Stop the activity, sit or lie somewhere safe, and keep your head still until the sensation settles. Avoid driving, climbing, cycling in traffic, or using machinery while dizzy. Rise slowly, use support, and drink fluids if you may have become overheated, unless a clinician has limited your fluid intake.

Arrange an assessment when episodes recur or begin after a new medicine, infection, head injury, or change in hearing. If positional vertigo is confirmed, a clinician may recommend an Epley Manoeuvre; do not attempt it if neck or back movement is unsafe.

When to seek urgent care

Seek emergency help for sudden vertigo with weakness, facial droop, trouble speaking, severe headache, fainting, chest pain, inability to walk, new hearing loss, or persistent vomiting. Get prompt care after a head injury or when symptoms are continuous and worsening.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether your pattern suggests an inner-ear or migraine cause, whether you need hearing or balance tests, which movements to avoid, and when exercise can resume.
