What should you know about an Epiduo rash?

Adapalene and benzoyl peroxide can cause dryness, redness, scaling, stinging or burning where applied, particularly after treatment begins or when the skin barrier is sensitive. A raised, intensely itchy rash, swelling or symptoms outside treated areas may suggest contact allergy or a drug reaction instead. Other rashes can resemble an Epiduo reaction, including atopic dermatitis, heat rash, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies or intertrigo. The appearance, timing and distribution help a clinician distinguish them.

Do not apply more Epiduo to irritated skin until you have received instructions from the prescriber. Rinse gently if product remains on the skin, avoid scrubbing, and use a bland moisturiser if tolerated. Avoid adding acids, exfoliants, fragranced products or other acne medicines while the reaction is active. Take a clear photograph and note when the rash started, where it appeared and what else touched the area. Do not restart, switch products or use a steroid cream on the face without medical guidance.

Get urgent help for swelling of the lips, tongue, face or throat, trouble breathing, dizziness, faintness, widespread blistering or peeling, or sores involving the eyes or mouth. Seek prompt clinical review for a rapidly spreading rash, pus, fever, severe pain or marked swelling. Arrange follow-up before restarting treatment, even if a mild reaction settles, so the cause and a safer acne plan can be assessed.

Ask whether the pattern looks like irritation, contact dermatitis or a drug rash; whether Epiduo should be stopped permanently; and which cleanser, moisturiser and acne alternative are appropriate. Mention all medicines, allergies and recent skin procedures.
