TENS sends low-level electrical pulses through adhesive electrodes placed on the skin. People commonly describe the sensation as tingling; it should not be painful. The device may change how pain signals are experienced, but it does not identify or correct the cause of pain. Results vary, and relief may stop when stimulation ends.

Place electrodes on clean, intact skin around the painful area as instructed, not over the eyes, front of the neck, open wounds, infected skin, or numb areas.
