What should you know about an ear hearing test?

An ear hearing test measures how well you hear different sounds and helps guide the next step. It can show whether hearing is reduced, whether one ear differs from the other, and whether the problem may involve the outer, middle, or inner ear.

A clinician usually asks about hearing changes, ringing, dizziness, ear pain, noise exposure, and medicines. They may look inside the ear before testing.
