Dry Skin in the Eyebrows: What to Know

The eyebrow area can become dry after harsh cleansing, hot water, wind, or a new cosmetic, brow tint, or skincare product. Itching, redness, and fine scale can occur with Atopic Dermatitis. Asteatotic Eczema can cause pronounced dryness and fissures, while Psoriasis may create thicker scale that also appears at the hairline, ears, or other sites.

Flakes alone do not identify one cause. Note whether the skin burns, itches, cracks, or changes after a product is used; that pattern helps a clinician assess it.

Clean the eyebrows with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry and apply a small amount of bland moisturiser or emollient to the skin, keeping it away from the eyes. Stop newly introduced makeup, brow dye, oils, or exfoliants until the irritation settles.

Do not pick flakes or brush aggressively. If scale persists, a clinician can choose treatment that is appropriate for facial skin and check whether the eyelids or nearby scalp are involved.

Seek medical advice for persistent or repeated flaking, painful cracks, spreading redness, or eyebrow hair loss. Get prompt help if the eyelids or eyes become swollen, painful, very red, light-sensitive, or affected in vision, or if the skin develops pus or fever.
