Does subcision treat atrophic scars?

Atrophic scars are depressions caused by loss of support beneath the skin. In some scars, tough bands anchor the base to deeper tissue and create a rolling or wavy appearance. Subcision separates those bands so the surface can lift as it heals. It is less directly suited to very narrow deep pits or scars whose main feature is colour rather than indentation. A close examination helps distinguish these patterns.

Bring a list of medicines and supplements, describe previous scar treatments, and mention any history of easy bruising, delayed healing, or raised scars. Ask how the clinician will protect nearby structures and what aftercare is needed. Keep acne under control if breakouts are still active, because new inflammation can create additional scars while treatment is being planned.

Bruising, tenderness, and swelling can occur after a procedure, but contact the clinic if pain worsens, redness spreads, the area becomes hot, drainage develops, or fever appears. Urgent assessment is appropriate for severe facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or bleeding that remains uncontrolled after firm pressure.
