Does psoriasis cause skin rash?

A psoriasis rash may feel itchy, sore, dry, or warm. It can form raised areas with visible scale and may affect the scalp, elbows, knees, trunk, hands, feet, or nails. On deeper skin tones, inflammation may look violet, brown, or darker than nearby skin rather than bright red. The appearance can change as a flare develops or settles.

Many conditions cause rashes, including contact irritation, eczema, allergy, and infection. A rash is therefore a symptom, not a diagnosis by itself. A clinician considers its borders, scale, distribution, timing, and associated symptoms.

Keep the skin moisturised with a fragrance-free cream or ointment, and use gentle washing with lukewarm water. Avoid scratching, tight clothing, harsh exfoliation, and newly added scented products. Note where the rash appears, whether it is scaly or painful, and what was happening before it worsened; these details help guide assessment.
