Does PRP injection help with heel pain?

Short answer
PRP injection may help some tendon or fascia-related causes of heel pain, but the benefit is variable and depends on the diagnosis and treatment plan.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Heel pain has several possible causes
Why the cause matters
Heel pain can arise from the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, a nerve, a joint, a stress injury, or other tissues. PRP is prepared from your own blood and placed at a selected treatment site. It may be discussed when examination suggests a persistent tendon or fascia problem and simpler care has not provided enough relief. It is not a universal treatment for heel pain, and an injection into the wrong structure will not address the underlying problem. A clinician may also consider footwear, calf flexibility, loading patterns, and walking mechanics when deciding on care.
Planning sensible care
Have persistent or activity-limiting heel pain assessed before choosing an injection. Tell the clinician whether the first steps in the morning hurt, whether pain is at the back or underside of the heel, and whether numbness or burning is present. Discuss medicines, bleeding conditions, skin problems, and previous injections. After PRP, follow the recommended period of modified loading and the gradual exercise plan. Supportive footwear and physiotherapy may be included. Read [Heel Pain](/symptoms/heel-pain/) and [PRP Injection](/treatments/non-surgical-orthopedics/prp-injection/) for more information.
When to seek care
Seek urgent care for sudden inability to push off or walk, a new visible gap in the Achilles tendon, major swelling after an injury, fever with a red or hot heel, or a cold or numb foot. Arrange a clinical review when pain steadily worsens, changes your walking, or fails to settle with an advised plan. New pain after an injection should be discussed promptly if it is severe or accompanied by redness, discharge, or fever.
Questions for your doctor
Which structure is causing my heel pain? Is PRP appropriate after trying rehabilitation? Where would it be injected? How should I walk and exercise during recovery?

Questions people ask
Will PRP stop heel pain straight away?
No. The treated area may be sore initially, and any improvement may develop gradually as the rehabilitation plan progresses.
Can I exercise after a heel PRP injection?
Activity is usually modified at first, then increased in stages according to the treating clinician's instructions.
