Does leukaemia cause unexplained weight loss?

Leukaemia can increase the body's energy demands and trigger inflammatory signals that reduce appetite or alter how the body uses energy. Mouth discomfort, nausea, infection, fatigue, or treatment can make eating harder. Weight loss may occur with night sweating, fever, tiredness, bruising, repeated infections, or swollen glands.

Weight loss can also result from digestive illness, thyroid disease, diabetes, dental problems, mood changes, medication effects, or difficulty accessing suitable food. The direction of the symptom matters: it is the condition that may present with weight loss, not proof that weight loss identifies that condition.
