Do fat-dissolving injections help with a double chin?

The injected medicine is intended to disrupt fat cells in the treated area, after which the body gradually clears the treated material. It is designed for a local pocket of fat rather than general weight loss. A double chin can also reflect loose skin, a small lower jaw, muscle shape or fullness extending beyond the area that injections can safely reach. In those situations, reducing fat alone may not create the contour you expect.

Temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness or firmness can occur. The clinician must map the injection area carefully because nearby nerves, blood vessels and other structures need protection.

Have an experienced medical practitioner assess the underside of your chin from several angles. Discuss whether fat, loose skin or both are contributing to the appearance, how many visits may be appropriate, and what recovery may look like. Contact the treating clinic for worsening pain, spreading redness, marked warmth, drainage or swelling that does not begin settling as expected. Seek urgent medical care for trouble breathing or swallowing, rapidly increasing swelling, facial weakness or other sudden neurological symptoms.
