Contact the treating team promptly for spreading redness, increasing warmth, worsening pain, foul-smelling drainage, fever, bleeding that does not settle with gentle pressure, or a graft that becomes unusually dark, pale, loose, or wet. Urgent care is appropriate for heavy bleeding, faintness, breathing difficulty, or rapidly worsening swelling. These changes can signal a complication that needs examination rather than home care alone.

Ask which type of graft is being considered, where the donor skin may come from, how both sites will be protected, what activity restrictions apply, and which changes should trigger a call.
