Does orthopaedic surgery perform PRP injection?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. A clinician takes a small sample of your blood, processes it to concentrate platelets, and injects the prepared plasma into a selected area. Ultrasound or another method may help guide placement when the target is deep or difficult to locate. PRP is not a universal treatment for joint, tendon, or ligament pain. The expected benefit depends on the tissue problem, symptom pattern, and whether the injection fits the wider care plan.

Tell the clinician about blood disorders, infection, immune conditions, pregnancy, allergies, medicines, and previous injections. Ask how the diagnosis was established and whether physiotherapy, load modification, medication, or another option should come first. Clarify what activity is allowed afterward and how follow-up will judge progress. Pain can briefly change after an injection, and improvement is not always immediate, so agree on a sensible review plan rather than expecting an instant result.

Get prompt care for severe or rapidly increasing pain, fever, spreading redness, marked swelling, pus, new weakness, or loss of sensation after an injection. A limb that becomes unusually pale, blue, cold, or difficult to move also needs urgent assessment. Before treatment, urgent review is appropriate for a hot swollen joint with fever or sudden inability to use the limb, because those features may need a different investigation.
