Does a chiropractic perform spinal manipulation?

Spinal manipulation is a hands-on technique in which a clinician applies a controlled movement to a spinal joint. It may be delivered with a quick, small thrust or a slower mobilisation, depending on the approach and the area being treated. A popping sound is not required for treatment to be meaningful. Your chiropractor should first ask about injuries, bone health, medicines, neurological symptoms, and previous procedures. Manipulation is one possible treatment, not a diagnosis, and it may be combined with advice, exercises, or activity changes.

Describe exactly where symptoms occur, what movements change them, and whether you have numbness, weakness, dizziness, or pain after an injury. Tell the clinician about osteoporosis, inflammatory disease, blood-thinning medicine, recent surgery, and any serious illness. Ask what technique is proposed, what benefit is expected, and what gentler alternatives are available. Do not continue a manoeuvre that causes sharp or unfamiliar symptoms.

Obtain urgent assessment for sudden weakness, difficulty walking, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the saddle area, or severe pain following trauma. Neck manipulation should not delay emergency care for sudden facial drooping, speech difficulty, severe new headache, fainting, or one-sided weakness. New symptoms after treatment should be reported promptly, especially if they progress.
