What it means
The device clips onto a finger or another approved site and uses light to estimate oxygen saturation and pulse. Disposable designs may help reduce cross-contamination in clinical settings. A result is an estimate, not a complete assessment of breathing. Nail products, shivering, skin temperature, circulation, and an unsuitable sensor position can affect the display.
How to use it
Rest, warm your hand, keep still, and wait for the display to settle. Remove nail coverings if they interfere, and follow the device instructions for the sensor site. Note the reading together with breathlessness, chest discomfort, bluish lips, confusion, or worsening illness. Do not delay medical care because a number looks reassuring, and do not make treatment changes without clinical advice.
