What should you know about differin sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin may sting, flush, itch, feel tight, or become rough after products that other people tolerate. Adapalene can cause dryness, peeling, redness, or burning while the skin adjusts. A damaged barrier can amplify those sensations. Sensitivity is not the same as a diagnosis: atopic dermatitis can bring itch and dryness, rosacea can bring flushing and burning, and perioral dermatitis can cause small inflamed bumps around the mouth. Existing irritation may need attention before an active retinoid is added.

Use a mild cleanser, fragrance-free moisturiser, and sunscreen. Apply adapalene only as directed, on dry skin, and consider a slower introduction if your clinician agrees. Keep it away from eyelids, lips, nostril folds, and cracked skin. Do not combine it casually with scrubs, peeling acids, alcohol-heavy toners, or other strong acne treatments. If stinging persists, pause the active and let the skin settle while you obtain personalised advice.

Get prompt medical advice for facial swelling, hives, blistering, severe pain, or trouble breathing. Arrange a review for a rash that spreads, repeated flushing, persistent bumps around the mouth, or symptoms that do not settle after pausing the product. Bring the complete product list, including cleansers, cosmetics, and treatments, so the trigger can be assessed.

Ask whether your symptoms fit sensitive skin, eczema, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis; whether adapalene is appropriate now; and which ingredients should be kept separate from it.
