Desitin for angular cheilitis

Angular cheilitis affects one or both corners of the mouth. The area may feel sore, burn, split, crust, or bleed when the mouth opens. Saliva collecting in the crease can soften the skin, while licking the lips, dentures, irritation, dry skin, or an infection can keep the cracks active. Desitin’s barrier action may reduce contact with moisture and rubbing on the outside skin, but it does not identify or remove the trigger. Avoid getting it inside the mouth.

Gently rinse the corners, pat dry, and avoid licking, picking, fragranced lip products, and harsh cleansers. If the cracks persist, recur, or have a moist coating, a clinician may check for yeast, bacteria, contact irritation, denture fit, or other contributors. Arrange medical review if the corners do not improve, keep reopening, or become increasingly swollen, crusted, or painful. Seek prompt care if redness spreads onto the face, pus develops, swallowing becomes difficult, or you feel feverish or unwell. Recurrent angular cheilitis may warrant assessment of oral habits, dental appliances, skin sensitivity, and general health rather than repeated self-treatment.
