Dermatofibroma is a benign, firm nodule formed from fibrous tissue in the skin. It can be tan, pink, brown, or darker than the surrounding skin, and it often feels anchored rather than freely mobile. An insect bite can trigger inflammation and scratching, which may be followed by a persistent nodule, although the bite is not proof of the cause.

The timing can make the two events seem directly connected. A clinician may still consider other explanations for a lump, especially if its colour, outline, texture, or size is unusual.

Take a clear photograph beside a ruler and record when you first noticed the spot. Avoid picking, squeezing, or repeatedly rubbing it, since friction can make the area sore or cause surface injury. Arrange a dermatology review if the diagnosis has not been confirmed. Examination may be enough; removal can be discussed if the nodule catches on clothing, remains irritated, or creates ongoing concern.

Seek prompt medical advice if the lump grows steadily, develops an irregular dark area, becomes persistently painful, ulcerates, or bleeds without clear trauma. Urgent assessment is also sensible when redness, warmth, swelling, or drainage spreads around the site, because those features can indicate infection or another skin problem rather than a settled dermatofibroma.
