A roller used at home can create tiny skin injuries without allowing a clinician to assess the depth, hygiene, pressure, or products applied afterward.

A derma roller has fine needles that pass over the skin. This is related to microneedling, but a home device does not provide the same assessment, sterile technique, treatment planning, or aftercare as a clinic procedure.
