Treatment for demodicosis on the face

Facial demodicosis may cause roughness, redness, itching, burning, sensitivity, or small follicle-centred bumps. These findings can overlap with rosacea, acne, contact dermatitis, and irritation from skin products. A clinician considers the distribution, texture, duration, eyelash involvement, and response to previous care. In some cases, the skin or lash area is examined more closely to support the diagnosis. Finding Demodex organisms does not automatically mean they are responsible for every facial change.

Use a mild cleanser and bland moisturiser, avoid abrasive exfoliation, and pause products that sting. Daily sun protection can reduce additional irritation. If examination supports demodicosis, a dermatologist may prescribe a topical or other mite-directed treatment and explain where it belongs, how often to use it, and when improvement should be reviewed. Do not use veterinary products, insecticides, or concentrated oils on facial skin. If scalp or lash symptoms accompany the rash, mention them because they may alter the plan.

Seek dermatology care for persistent facial redness, bumps, scaling, or burning, particularly when home products keep making the area worse. Get prompt help for facial swelling, blistering, rapidly spreading redness, fever, eye pain, or vision changes. Stop a new product and seek advice if it causes intense swelling or a severe reaction.
