What should you know about the Delta One dermatoscope?

The device reduces surface glare and enlarges details that may not be clear to the unaided eye. A clinician can examine colour, structure, symmetry, and changes across a lesion, then compare the view with the rest of your skin and any previous images.

It is an assessment aid, not a diagnosis by itself. A reassuring view does not remove the need to monitor a changing lesion, and a concerning view may lead to photographs, review, biopsy, or another test. The decision depends on the lesion and your personal history.

Before the appointment, note when a spot appeared or changed and whether it has itched, bled, crusted, or become painful. Bring details of previous skin cancers, biopsies, significant sun exposure, and family history if relevant.

During the examination, the clinician may look at many areas and use the device directly on the skin. Ask which spots need a baseline photograph, how to check them at home, and when a follow-up review should occur. Do not cover a changing lesion with makeup before assessment.

Arrange a skin assessment for a new or changing mole, a spot with uneven colour or outline, persistent bleeding or crusting, a sore that does not heal, or a lesion that is growing, itching, or painful. Seek prompt care when change is rapid.

Ask what features were seen through the dermatoscope, whether the lesion needs a photograph or biopsy, how soon it should be reviewed, and which changes should prompt you to return sooner.
