What should you know about deep ingrown pubic hair?

Stop hair removal over the bump and keep the area clean and dry. A warm compress may soften surface skin and ease discomfort. Wear loose, breathable clothing and avoid rubbing or repeated checking. Never lance, squeeze, or probe the lesion, and do not use strong acids or fragranced products on genital skin without clinical advice. If the hair tip becomes clearly visible, leave it alone rather than forcing it out. A clinician can remove a trapped hair safely and assess whether inflammation or infection needs treatment. For repeated episodes, review grooming technique and consider whether laser hair removal is suitable.

Get medical advice for worsening pain, warmth, swelling, pus, an open sore, spreading redness, or a bump that keeps returning. Seek prompt assessment for fever, feeling faint, or rapidly worsening symptoms. A deep groin lump can have causes unrelated to hair, including a cyst or another skin condition.

Ask what the lump most likely represents, whether examination of nearby skin is needed, how to remove hair without repeated irritation, and which products are appropriate for the genital area.
