What should you know about cystocele rectocele?

A cystocele is bladder prolapse into the front vaginal wall. A rectocele is a bulge of the rectum toward the back vaginal wall. Weak pelvic support can cause pressure, fullness, a vaginal bulge, urine leakage, difficulty emptying the bladder, constipation or discomfort during sex. A symptom has several possible causes, so examination is needed to identify the affected area and whether more than one compartment is involved.

Arrange a pelvic-floor or gynaecology assessment if symptoms affect urination, bowel movements, exercise or intimacy. Keep notes about bulging, pressure, leakage and emptying problems. Pelvic-floor physiotherapy, constipation care and a fitted vaginal pessary may help. Surgery can be discussed when symptoms remain troublesome; the choice depends on findings, health and personal plans.

Seek prompt care if you cannot pass urine, have severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fever, or a protruding area that becomes very sore or swollen. A new or worsening vaginal bulge, repeated urinary infection or worsening bowel difficulty also deserves medical review.

Ask which pelvic compartment is affected, whether other prolapse is present, and how the findings are graded. Discuss therapy, pessary support, bowel care, surgery, recovery and the warning signs that should prompt urgent help.
