What should you know about cyrex food intolerance test?

Short answer
A Cyrex food intolerance test may detect immune reactions to selected foods, but a result needs clinical interpretation and does not by itself diagnose every food-related problem.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the result means
Food intolerance can involve digestive symptoms without the same mechanism as an immediate food allergy. A panel may measure antibodies or other markers linked to particular foods, depending on the test used. A positive finding does not automatically prove that a food causes your symptoms, and a negative finding does not rule out lactose intolerance, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, allergy, or another cause. Symptoms such as bloating and diarrhoea can have several explanations.
The useful question is whether the result fits your history: which food was eaten, how much, how soon symptoms appeared, and whether the same pattern happens repeatedly.
What to do next
Take the report to a GP or registered dietitian before removing several foods. They can review medicines, previous reactions, bowel symptoms, weight change, and any warning signs, then decide whether standard assessment or targeted testing is more appropriate. A structured food diary can record meals, timing, symptoms, and bowel changes. If an elimination trial is suggested, agree on its duration and plan for safe reintroduction so that your diet remains nutritionally adequate. Nutrition Counselling can help when restrictions are becoming difficult.
Do not use a home panel to test a food after a rapid reaction involving wheeze, throat swelling, faintness, or widespread hives; seek urgent medical help for those symptoms.
When to seek care
Arrange medical assessment for persistent diarrhoea, repeated vomiting, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, fever, dehydration, or symptoms that wake you at night. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or tongue, faintness, or a rapidly spreading reaction after eating. A clinician can separate an emergency allergic reaction from longer-term digestive symptoms and guide the next investigation.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which markers the panel measured, how closely the result matches your symptom pattern, and whether another diagnosis should be considered. Ask how to remove and reintroduce a suspected food safely, whether you need a dietitian, and which symptoms should trigger urgent care.

Questions people ask
Can a Cyrex test diagnose food intolerance on its own?
No. The result must be interpreted alongside symptoms, diet history, examination, and other appropriate tests.
Should I avoid every food listed as positive?
Not automatically. Removing foods without a reintroduction plan can create unnecessary restrictions and nutritional gaps.
