Pulsed dye laser energy is directed at blood vessels or redness while limiting exposure of nearby skin. A clinician may consider it for facial redness, visible small vessels, some scars, or certain vascular marks after examining the area. The device settings depend on the location, colour, thickness, and cause of the concern.

A treated area can feel warm or sting briefly. Redness, swelling, bruising, or a darker-looking mark may follow and usually needs gentle care while the skin settles. The appearance of a vascular concern can change gradually, and a treatment plan may involve more than one visit.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, photosensitivity, medicines, cold sores, bleeding problems, and any active rash or infection.
