What helps an earache?

Earache relief depends on its cause; gentle pain relief and keeping the ear dry may help while it is assessed. A cold, earwax buildup, sinus pressure, tonsillitis, or a middle-ear infection can all cause pain, so one remedy is not suitable for every earache.

Ear pain may come from the ear itself or be felt there from nearby areas such as the throat, teeth, or sinuses. A middle-ear infection may follow a cold and can cause pressure, reduced hearing, or fever. Earwax buildup can block hearing and create fullness. Pain with discharge, marked tenderness, or swelling needs examination because the outer ear may also be inflamed.
