What should you know about Crystacide for impetigo?

Impetigo is a contagious bacterial infection that can cause blisters, oozing areas, and yellow-brown crusts, often around the nose, mouth, or on exposed skin. Crystacide contains hydrogen peroxide and is applied to the skin; it is not suitable for every rash or wound. A clinician considers the extent, location, age, skin condition, and whether there are signs of a deeper infection before recommending it. Eczema can become infected, but eczema itself is not the same as impetigo.

Use the product only as directed and apply it to clean, dry affected skin. Avoid the eyes, inside the mouth, and other sensitive surfaces, and wash hands before and after application. Do not share towels, clothing, bedding, or personal items while lesions are active. Gently soften crusts only as advised; picking can spread infection and damage healing skin. If the area becomes more irritated, stop and seek advice about an alternative. Wider or recurring infection may need a different treatment plan.

Arrange prompt medical review if lesions are spreading, painful, warm, swollen, or associated with fever. Seek urgent care for severe illness, rapidly expanding redness, facial or eye involvement, or difficulty drinking. Children, people with weakened immunity, and anyone with a recurrent infection may need assessment sooner. Review is also sensible when crusting does not improve or the diagnosis is unclear.
