What should you know about cryotherapy wart removal?

A clinician applies a very cold agent to the wart for a controlled period. The treated spot may sting, become red, swell, or form a fluid-filled blister. A scab can develop later. The wart may need more than one treatment, particularly when it is thick or lies on a weight-bearing area. Healing time varies with the site and the size of the treated area.

Keep the area clean and follow the dressing instructions you receive. Do not deliberately break a blister or pull off a crust; protect it from rubbing and let it detach naturally. Wash your hands after touching the area, avoid sharing towels or nail tools, and do not shave across it. Use only the pain relief or skin products recommended for you. A clinician can explain whether another wart treatment is appropriate if the lesion remains.

Contact a clinician if redness spreads, pain becomes increasingly severe, swelling is marked, or the area produces pus or develops a bad smell. Seek urgent help for fever with rapidly worsening skin changes, or for swelling that affects breathing or swallowing. Arrange an assessment if the lesion bleeds repeatedly, changes appearance, or the diagnosis of a wart is uncertain.
