What should you know about cryotherapy liquid nitrogen?

Liquid nitrogen is a cryogenic material used by trained clinicians to freeze specific surface lesions. The cold application can feel sharp, cold or burning for a short time. The area may then redden, swell or blister, followed by a crust that separates as new skin forms. The response depends on the lesion, its thickness, its body location and the depth of freezing needed.

Cryotherapy is not suitable for every mark. A clinician may examine the lesion first and choose observation, sampling or another treatment when the diagnosis is uncertain, the site is delicate or the lesion extends deeper than freezing can safely address.

Tell the clinician about poor circulation, reduced sensation, immune problems, previous abnormal scars and medicines that affect healing or bleeding. After treatment, follow the dressing instructions, wash gently and avoid pulling at a blister or crust. Keep the area protected from friction and use sun protection after the skin has closed, as advised.
