What should you know about cryotherapy genital wart removal?

Genital warts are commonly linked with human papillomavirus, but a genital growth is not automatically a wart. A clinician examines the area and may choose another test or treatment if the appearance is unusual. Cryotherapy applies a controlled freezing agent to visible external wart tissue. The treated spot can sting, swell or blister, then form a sore or crust as it heals.

Treatment reduces visible warts but may not clear virus from nearby skin, so new warts can appear. Several appointments may be needed, depending on the number, size and location of lesions. Cryotherapy is not a substitute for sexual-health advice, screening or discussion with partners.
