COVID-19 test report online check: how to read it

A positive result means the test detected evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the sample. A negative result means the test did not detect it at that time; it is not a guarantee that infection is absent. The meaning also depends on whether the report describes a rapid antigen test or a laboratory PCR test, and on when the sample was collected compared with symptoms or an exposure.

Use the official portal or provider message, confirm your name and identification details, and compare the collection date with the result date. Save the report where you can find it, but protect personal information when sharing it. If the result conflicts with your symptoms or another test, contact the testing provider or a clinician rather than editing or guessing from the report.

Get urgent help for trouble breathing, chest pain or pressure, sudden confusion, inability to stay awake, or blue, grey, or very pale lips or skin. Seek prompt medical advice for worsening illness, dehydration, or fever that persists. Do not rely on an online report to postpone assessment when you feel severely unwell.
