What should you know about cosmetic cellulite treatment?

Cellulite is a surface texture change caused by the relationship between fat compartments, connective tissue bands, skin thickness, and elasticity. It commonly affects the thighs, hips, buttocks, or abdomen and can be present at different body sizes. Creams, exercise, and weight change may alter skin appearance or body shape, but they do not address every structural factor.

Treatment choice depends on whether dimples are mainly tethered by fibrous bands, associated with lax skin, or made more visible by tissue volume. Subcision releases selected bands beneath the skin. Radiofrequency and RF microneedling use heat, with or without tiny needle channels, to encourage remodelling and tightening. Carboxytherapy uses injected gas and has a different mechanism.

Have the area examined while standing and moving, because lighting and muscle contraction can change how dimpling looks. Ask what feature the proposed treatment targets, how many visits may be considered, what downtime is expected, and whether maintenance is likely. Share pregnancy plans, medicines, bleeding problems, allergies, skin infections, scars, and previous procedures. Follow wound-care instructions carefully after any needle-based or subcision treatment, and avoid judging the result while swelling or bruising is present.

Contact the treating clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, pus, fever, marked swelling, numbness that progresses, or a wound that is not healing. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or severe allergic symptoms. A new firm lump, one-sided swelling, or painful skin change should be medically assessed rather than assumed to be cellulite.

Ask which tissue feature is causing your dimpling, why a particular method fits, what improvement is realistic, how scars or contour changes are handled, and when normal activity can resume. Ask how complications are treated and what maintenance plan would preserve the change.
