What should you know about bleeding between periods while taking the contraceptive pill?

Hormonal changes from the pill can make the lining of the womb shed small amounts of blood outside the expected withdrawal bleed. Spotting is more likely after starting or changing a pill, missing tablets, taking them late, vomiting, or having diarrhoea that affects absorption.
