What should you know about constant light bleeding after period?

Light bleeding after a period may arise from hormonal contraception, ovulation, irritation after sex, infection, or changes in the cervix or womb. Cervical dysplasia, cervical cancer, endometrial polyps, uterine fibroids, and womb cancer are among conditions a clinician may consider; a bleeding pattern alone cannot identify the cause.

Tell the clinician whether the blood is pink, brown, or red, whether it follows sex, and whether you have pelvic pain, unusual discharge, fever, dizziness, or a missed period. Pregnancy-related bleeding needs its own assessment.

Arrange a medical appointment if the bleeding continues or keeps returning. Record when it starts after each period, how much protection you use, triggers such as sex, contraception, and associated symptoms. A clinician may offer a pregnancy test, pelvic examination, infection testing, cervical screening review, blood tests, or imaging according to your age and history.

Avoid vaginal douching and do not stop prescribed contraception without advice. If an infection such as chlamydia is possible, seek testing and avoid sex until you have received guidance about treatment and partners.

Seek urgent help for heavy bleeding, fainting, severe pelvic or shoulder-tip pain, fever with feeling very unwell, or bleeding during pregnancy. Prompt assessment is also needed for bleeding after menopause or bleeding after sex that repeatedly occurs. These warning signs can accompany significant bleeding, infection, or a pregnancy-related emergency.
