Congestive prostatitis

People may feel discomfort between the scrotum and anus, in the lower abdomen, penis, or lower back. Urinary urgency, frequent urination, painful urination, or difficulty passing urine can occur. Symptoms may fluctuate and can be affected by pelvic muscle tension, prolonged sitting, sexual activity, or bowel symptoms. Similar complaints can occur with prostatitis or a urinary tract infection, so symptoms alone do not identify the cause.

Book a GP consultation for an assessment, especially when symptoms are new, persistent, or interfering with sleep. Your clinician may ask about urine flow, pain, sexual symptoms, medicines, bowel habits, and previous infections, then decide whether urine testing or an examination is appropriate. Drink normally, avoid holding urine, and notice triggers. Do not start leftover antibiotics; antibiotic treatment is useful only when a clinician thinks bacterial infection is plausible.

Seek urgent care if you cannot pass urine, develop fever or chills with pelvic pain, become suddenly very unwell, or notice severe testicular pain or swelling. Arrange prompt medical advice for blood in the urine, worsening pain, or urinary symptoms that continue despite initial measures.

Ask whether testing suggests infection, what else could explain the symptoms, and whether pelvic muscle or bladder factors need attention. Confirm when to return, whether antibiotics are needed, and which pain-relief options fit your health history.
