Compression garment after gynecomastia surgery

A chest compression garment can support swelling after gynecomastia surgery when it fits evenly and is worn according to the operating team's plan. The garment should lie flat across the chest without digging into the armpits, pressing painfully on incisions, restricting breathing, or creating a tight rolled edge.

Surgery may involve liposuction, removal of gland tissue, skin removal, or a combination, so compression needs are not identical for everyone. Gentle, distributed pressure can help manage swelling and support the operated area. It does not correct a collection of blood or fluid, treat infection, or replace review of uneven swelling. Dressings, drains, and nipple-area incisions may affect which vest or binder style is suitable.

Fasten the garment to the setting demonstrated by the clinical team, then check that you can take a comfortable full breath and move your arms within the stated restrictions. Keep the fabric smooth and inspect the chest, armpits, shoulders, nipple area, and incision lines when the garment is removed as instructed. Make sure drain tubing is not kinked or trapped. Follow the label for washing and drying, and put the garment back on only as directed. Seek sizing advice instead of tightening it to flatten a new bulge or correct asymmetry.

Get urgent help for breathing difficulty, chest pain unrelated to the incision, fainting, confusion, or a painful swollen leg. A rapidly enlarging or very tense swelling on one side of the chest, heavy bleeding, or severe escalating pain needs prompt surgical assessment. Also report fever, spreading redness, pus, a bad smell, an opening wound, nipple or skin darkening, or a drain that suddenly stops while swelling increases. Loosen pressure as previously instructed if the garment causes numbness, cold skin, marked colour change, or breathing restriction, and obtain clinical advice.

Ask how the surgical technique affects your garment schedule and whether the chest requires different pressure near incisions or drains. Clarify how to distinguish expected uneven swelling from a fluid or blood collection, when to change fastening settings, and which arm movements are restricted. If the vest rubs the nipple area or armpits, request a fit check and an approved way to protect the skin.
