What should you know about CO2 scar laser?

The laser removes or heats carefully selected columns of skin, depending on whether the treatment is ablative or fractional. During repair, the treated area forms new surface tissue and collagen structure. This may make an indented acne scar, surgical scar, or other uneven area look smoother, but the response depends on scar type, age, depth, location, and your skin's tendency to change colour.

A raised, tight, or actively changing scar may need a different assessment before resurfacing. Active infection, inflamed acne, dermatitis, or a recently injured area can also change the timing. A scar consultation should distinguish texture from redness, pigment, and tightness because one laser setting does not address every feature.

Improvement is gradual; a scar can become less noticeable without disappearing.

Call the clinic if discomfort escalates, redness spreads beyond the treated area, swelling becomes marked, or the skin develops pus, a bad smell, fever, or worsening warmth. New blisters or a change in the scar that concerns you should be reviewed. Get urgent help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, severe eye symptoms, or vision changes.
