What should you know about CO2 laser treatment for the stomach?

On abdominal skin, controlled CO2 laser energy can remove or heat tiny areas of the surface. Healing may soften uneven texture, fine lines or some scars, including selected marks left after inflammation or surgery. It cannot tighten separated abdominal muscles, dissolve fat, repair a hernia or replace surgery for substantial loose tissue. A clinician must examine the area because scars, stretch marks and laxity do not all respond in the same way.

The stomach may remain red, warm, swollen or tender before peeling. Darkening or lightening of the skin, delayed healing, infection and scarring are possible. Friction from clothing and sweating can make aftercare more difficult.

Tell the clinician about pregnancy or breastfeeding, recent tanning, abdominal surgery, active rashes, diabetes, immune problems, cold sores and medicines that affect healing. Wear loose clothing after treatment and keep the area clean and protected as instructed. Avoid scratching, tight waistbands, hot baths, swimming and unapproved creams while the skin is vulnerable. Keep follow-up appointments so healing and pigment are checked.

Get prompt advice for pain that escalates, spreading redness, pus, fever, foul odour, extensive blistering or skin that becomes increasingly dark or pale. Seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, a new bulge, vomiting or breathing difficulty, because these symptoms are not routine laser recovery signs.

Ask whether your concern is surface texture, a scar or loose tissue, and what the laser can realistically change. Confirm the planned depth, number of visits, clothing and activity restrictions, pigment precautions, pain control and alternatives if resurfacing is not suitable.
