What should you know about CO2 laser on the nose?

CO2 laser delivers infrared energy to water-rich skin, allowing controlled removal or heating of selected layers. On the nose, the practitioner must account for thin skin, curved surfaces, the nostril edges, oiliness, and nearby areas that may be more sensitive.

The goal may be smoother texture or less visible scarring, not a change to the shape of the nose. A mark that bleeds, changes, or has not been diagnosed should be examined medically before any cosmetic laser treatment.

Tell the clinician about acne, eczema, cold sores, allergies, medicines, previous nasal procedures, and any tendency to darken or scar after irritation. Ask how the nostrils will be protected and whether the planned approach is fractional or more extensive.

During healing, cleanse gently, apply only the recommended products, and avoid blowing or rubbing the nose forcefully if the area feels tender. Do not pick crusts or use acids, retinoids, steam, or fragranced products until cleared. Protect the nose from sun after the surface has closed, since inflammation plus ultraviolet exposure can prolong colour change.

Seek advice if pain, heat, swelling, or redness is increasing, or if there is pus, a bad smell, fever, or a spreading rash. Obtain urgent help for facial swelling that affects breathing, sudden severe swelling inside the nose, or a rapidly escalating reaction.

Ask what diagnosis is being treated, what depth and pattern will be used, and how the clinician will protect nasal edges and nearby skin. Discuss expected crusting, cleaning, sun avoidance, cold-sore precautions, pigment change, scar risk, and the signs that require an earlier review.
