CO2 laser lifetime: how long results may last

CO2 laser stimulates controlled skin remodelling and may improve texture, fine lines or selected scars. The treated tissue does not return to its starting point immediately, yet the procedure does not pause normal ageing, sun exposure or changes in a scar. Some improvements remain noticeable for a long time, while texture and pigment can evolve. Keloid or hypertrophic scar tissue may also become active again, which is why a lifetime claim cannot be separated from the condition being treated.

Use the aftercare plan until the surface has recovered, then keep a simple routine that supports the skin barrier. Daily broad-spectrum sun protection, shade and avoiding deliberate tanning help limit colour changes. Do not schedule another resurfacing session solely because an early result looks unfinished; collagen remodelling can continue after visible peeling ends. Review goals with a dermatologist if the concern returns or if you are considering maintenance treatment.

Ask for review if redness, burning, crusting or swelling persists beyond the expected recovery plan, or if the skin becomes increasingly painful. Prompt assessment is needed for pus, fever, spreading redness, eye symptoms or a wound that is not closing. A new raised scar or sudden pigment change should also be examined before using active products.
