CO2 laser for forehead wrinkles: what to know

Forehead wrinkles can be visible at rest, appear with raising the eyebrows, or have both features. Sun exposure and gradual collagen change affect the skin surface, while repeated muscle contraction creates expression lines. CO2 laser treats selected skin layers and can refine texture; it does not directly relax the muscles that fold the forehead.

The forehead is close to the eyebrows and eyes, so eye protection and controlled settings matter. Expected healing may include redness, swelling, sensitivity, peeling or crusting. Infection, pigment change and scarring are possible, especially when the skin is irritated, recently tanned or prone to abnormal scars.

Share your history of cold sores, eczema, acne, raised scars, pigment changes and slow healing. Tell the clinician about medicines and cosmetic procedures, including injections or peels. Avoid tanning and follow the clinic’s instructions about skincare products before the session.

During recovery, cleanse gently and use only the products recommended for the treated skin. Do not scratch, peel flakes or restart strong actives early. Keep hats, hair products and headwear from rubbing the area. After the surface closes, protect the forehead from sunlight with clothing and broad-spectrum sunscreen as advised.

Ask for medical advice if redness, warmth, swelling or pain is increasing, or if there is pus-like drainage, fever, a spreading rash or new blisters. Seek urgent help for eye pain, vision changes, severe eyelid swelling, breathing difficulty or rapidly worsening facial swelling. Do not cover concerning symptoms with makeup before they are assessed.

Ask whether the lines are present at rest or mainly linked to expression, which laser depth is planned, and how the eyes will be protected. Clarify downtime, pigment precautions, sun-care instructions, review timing and whether another treatment would better address movement-related lines.
