Short answer

A CO2 face laser precisely treats selected facial skin to encourage resurfacing and collagen remodeling, while the depth, skin condition, and aftercare shape the result and recovery.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What facial CO2 laser means

The carbon dioxide laser can vaporize or heat small columns of skin, depending on whether the plan is ablative, fractional, or another tailored approach. This controlled injury starts repair and can improve uneven texture, fine lines, and some scars. It cannot erase every mark, and facial redness or pigment may have causes that require a different treatment.

Expect a period of warmth, redness, swelling, sensitivity, peeling, or crusting. The treated depth and the size of the area influence how much care is needed. A clinician should review active acne, eczema, infection, recent tanning, cold sores, medicines, and previous reactions before proceeding.

Planning and recovery

Bring a list of medicines and skincare products to the consultation. Discuss your skin tone, history of dark marks or raised scars, sun exposure, and the exact concern you want addressed. Ask whether a test area, a gentler setting, or another option would make more sense for your skin and goals.

During recovery, cleanse gently and apply only the recommended bland ointment or moisturizer. Keep the surface protected from sun, do not scratch or peel it, and delay makeup or active ingredients until the clinician permits them. Follow the planned review schedule so healing can be checked.

When a review is urgent

Report increasing pain, heat, redness, pus, fever, spreading blisters, or swelling that is getting worse. Seek prompt medical assessment for breathing difficulty, facial swelling involving the mouth or throat, eye pain, vision change, or rapidly expanding discoloration.

Questions worth asking

Ask which facial layers will be treated, how the settings match your concern, what the expected peeling period is, and what signs indicate infection or a pigment reaction. Clarify sun protection, downtime, follow-up, and the plan if the first treatment does not meet your goal.

Questions people ask

Can a CO2 face laser treat acne scars?

It may improve the texture of selected acne scars, but the suitable laser depth and approach depend on scar type, skin tone, and active breakouts.

Will my face be red after treatment?

Redness is a common part of the inflammatory healing response, though its intensity and duration vary with the treatment plan and your skin.
