What should you know about cipro rash treatment?

Ciprofloxacin can be followed by a medication-related eruption, but a rash may also be contact dermatitis, heat rash, intertrigo, psoriasis, ringworm or scabies. The distribution, itch, scale, blisters, fever and timing help distinguish these possibilities. A rash does not by itself prove that ciprofloxacin caused it, and it should not be diagnosed from a photograph alone.

Write down when the medicine started, when the rash appeared, every dose taken and any other new medicine, food or product. Contact the prescriber promptly for advice about the next dose; do not restart or substitute an antibiotic on your own. Use only gentle skin care until assessed, and avoid scratching or applying steroid, antifungal or antibiotic creams without guidance.

Call emergency services for trouble breathing, throat or facial swelling, faintness, widespread blistering, skin peeling, painful mouth or eye sores, or a rapidly spreading rash with fever. Same-day medical advice is appropriate for a new rash while taking ciprofloxacin, especially if it is worsening or accompanied by feeling unwell.
