Where does cholera occur worldwide?

A person becomes infected by swallowing cholera bacteria in unsafe drinking water, ice, raw foods, or food handled with unwashed hands. The main danger is rapid loss of water and salts through profuse watery diarrhoea, not the country or region itself.

Use treated or sealed water for drinking, cooking, teeth cleaning, and ice. Wash hands with soap, eat food cooked and served hot, peel produce yourself, and avoid raw foods washed in uncertain water. Oral Rehydration Therapy can replace lost fluid when diarrhoea begins.

Seek urgent care for heavy watery diarrhoea, repeated vomiting, severe thirst, minimal urine, dizziness, fainting, confusion, or inability to drink. Severe dehydration may need IV Fluid Therapy and monitoring.
