What should you know about cholera how is it spread?

Short answer
Cholera spreads when contaminated faeces or vomit reach food, water, hands, or surfaces that people swallow from.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

The spread pathway
Cholera follows a faecal–oral route. An infected person sheds bacteria in stool or vomit; poor sanitation, unsafe water, or inadequate handwashing can then carry those bacteria into someone’s mouth. Contaminated water may be used for drinking, making ice, washing ingredients, or brushing teeth. Food can become contaminated during preparation, particularly when it is handled after cooking.
The infection is not typically passed simply by breathing the same air or being near a person. The practical concern is what reaches the mouth, so controlling water, waste, hands, and food breaks the chain of spread.
Ways to interrupt transmission
Drink treated, boiled, or sealed water and use it for ice and food preparation. Wash hands with soap after using the toilet, after cleaning someone who is sick, and before preparing or eating food. Cook food thoroughly, peel produce when possible, and keep cooked food away from raw ingredients. Clean contaminated surfaces safely and place soiled clothing or bedding in a careful wash. Anyone with diarrhoea should avoid preparing food for others and seek medical advice.
Act quickly if symptoms start
Seek prompt care for sudden watery diarrhoea, repeated vomiting, marked thirst, weakness, dizziness, cramps, or reduced urination after possible exposure. Use Oral Rehydration Therapy while arranging advice if the person can drink. Go to emergency care for confusion, collapse, severe drowsiness, or inability to swallow; IV Fluid Therapy may be required when oral replacement is not enough.
Useful questions
Ask how to disinfect water and household surfaces, whether close contacts need assessment, how long food-preparation precautions should continue, and how to recognise dehydration. Mention the suspected source, the timing of exposure, and every symptom so the clinician can advise on testing and follow-up.
