What should you know about chin augmentation fat transfer?

A clinician removes fat from a donor area, prepares it, and places small amounts through injections into selected chin planes. The aim may be to balance a recessed chin, smooth a transition between the lower face and neck, or improve asymmetry. Swelling and bruising can temporarily make the chin look fuller than the intended result. Some transferred fat may be absorbed as healing progresses, so the final contour is assessed later rather than immediately.

During a consultation, discuss your profile, bite, facial movement, previous fillers or surgery, medications, and the area that could provide donor fat. Follow the clinic’s instructions about cleansing, activity, and medicines before and after treatment. Keep pressure and rubbing away from the chin while it settles, and attend the planned review so the contour can be judged after swelling reduces. Dermal fillers may be discussed when a clinician wants a different level of control or reversibility; fat transfer is a separate option.

Contact the treating clinic promptly for worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing warmth, drainage, fever, or a rapidly changing area of swelling. Seek urgent medical care for trouble breathing, faintness, sudden weakness, or vision changes. A firm area, unevenness, or persistent swelling deserves review, but should not be self-massaged unless the clinician advises it.

Ask which chin features can realistically be changed, where donor fat would come from, how the procedure is performed, what temporary changes are expected, and when the result should be reviewed. Ask how prior injectables, dental treatment, skin conditions, or weight changes could affect planning.
