Chicken skin rash causes: what the bumps may mean

The phrase chicken skin commonly describes many tiny, rough, skin-coloured or red bumps, especially on the outer upper arms, thighs, cheeks, or buttocks. Keratosis pilaris develops when keratin collects around hair follicles. It is usually a texture concern rather than a dangerous rash, and dry weather or friction can make it more noticeable.

Folliculitis is another possibility when bumps are centred on hairs and become tender, itchy, or pus-filled. New products, shaving, tight clothing, sweat, or rubbing may irritate follicles. The appearance alone cannot confirm the cause.
