Cellulite on the upper arms: what to know

Cellulite may look like dimples, ripples, or an orange-peel surface. It can be more visible when the arm is relaxed, compressed, or viewed under strong light. The upper arms are one of several places where it can occur, and its appearance is not a measure of fitness or personal care. Weight changes, skin elasticity, genetics, and hormonal influences can affect how noticeable it is.

Start with realistic goals: treatment may soften texture rather than remove every dimple. A dermatologist can examine whether looseness, fat distribution, or tethering beneath the skin is the main feature. Options may include radiofrequency skin tightening for laxity, RF microneedling for texture, carboxytherapy, or subcision when fibrous bands pull the skin downward. Arrange a medical assessment if the area is new and rapidly changing, painful, hot, swollen, bruised without a clear cause, or associated with a lump, weakness, or a spreading rash. These features are not typical of uncomplicated cellulite and may need a different evaluation.
