Cellulite and Pregnancy: What to Know

Short answer
Cellulite may look more noticeable during pregnancy as body shape, fluid balance and skin tension change, and it often deserves cosmetic planning after birth.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why pregnancy can change its appearance
Cellulite is a dimpled surface texture related to fat compartments, connective bands and the overlying skin. Pregnancy changes body contour and tissue tension, so existing dimples may stand out more; swelling or weight changes can alter how the surface looks as well. Cellulite itself is not a diagnosis of a pregnancy complication. It is separate from stretch marks, which are linear changes in skin associated with stretching and altered support.
Comfort and treatment planning
Follow your maternity clinician’s advice about activity, hydration and nutrition, and avoid restrictive diets or vigorous routines that are not appropriate for you. Do not start injectable, energy-based, needling or surgical cellulite procedures during pregnancy without explicit clearance from the clinician managing your pregnancy. Carboxytherapy, Radiofrequency Skin Tightening, RF Microneedling and Subcision can be discussed later, when your health, breastfeeding plans and skin healing have been reviewed. A procedure consultation should identify whether the concern is dimpling, laxity or another change.
Symptoms that need medical attention
Contact your maternity team for sudden or marked swelling, especially if it affects one leg, or if the skin is painful, hot, red or rapidly changing. Headache, visual symptoms, upper abdominal pain or breathlessness also warrant prompt pregnancy care. These symptoms should not be attributed to cellulite.
Questions for your care team
Ask which changes are expected at your stage of pregnancy, what activity is suitable, whether a product or procedure should wait until after birth or breastfeeding, and which warning signs require same-day advice.
